About
Christina Brennan

Writer, Reviewer & Film Journalist

Christina is a freelance writer and film critic from Yorkshire. She writes about all types of films. She is as interested in what happens behind the camera as much as on the screen. Christina shares the year of her birth with Bernard Rose’s Candyman and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. And David Fincher’s Alien 3, which has aged somewhat better than expected. She likes to think she has, too.

Her work has appeared in Little White Lies, Soundsphere, Film Stories, Dread Central, Film Hounds and many other places. She has interviewed award-winning directors, including Hollywood’s Kevin Smith (Dogma, Clerks) and the UK’s Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent), as well as rising stars of the UK horror scene, including Amber Doig-Thorne and Ayvianna Snow.

As a regular writer for Soundsphere, the North's top music magazine, she’s interviewed award-winning bands including members of The Coral, Mansun, Princess Goes, Pile, and Japanese rock band MAN WITH A MISSION. There’s never a dull assignment with Soundsphere. One week she’s talking post-punk rock, the next she’s writing up an interview with wrestling star Shotzi Blackheart about making history in women’s wrestling.

She covers major UK film festivals, including Manchester International Film FestivalGlasgow FrightFest, and Sundance London.

Her first book, on the Dutch French psychological thriller The Vanishing, was published in March 2025. While writing this book, she had a lot of fun squirrelling around various film archives, including the British Film Institute. In the more distant past, she did a PhD on post-apocalyptic horror and science-fiction, which means she is academically qualified to survive (or at least analyse) the end of the world.
